song 11 "12"

Denise and I celebrated our 12 year anniversary yesterday. I wanted to write something for her, but the ideas weren't coming and time was short. Here's something I came up with today.

I can't live with that frown
come here girl, let's turn it around
you've had a long hard day
press close to me, I'll take the pain away

I will be right here when you need me
I will be what ever you want me to be
I will see that you're satisfied
we will be happy

you need me
I need you too
I'm so happy now you're here

song 10 "this is hard"

Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and go with it. Enjoy!

I'm tired and want to go to sleep
I don't know what I was thinking
a new song every single day
100 days is a long time

how's this one? this is real life
 I'm writing what I'm thinking
I don't care what you think of this
when I'm done I can go to bed

I'll see you all tomorrow

song 9 "you're the best"

This one didn't take a lot of time to write, but it took several attempts at recording. It's not perfect, but I couldn't keep recording all night.

don't exhale the dying trees will breath your carbon dioxide
why should they receive something for free from you
you only like yourself
now you're full so throw your food away
they haven't earned it
besides, you can't have them asking you for more
nothing in life is free
you know you're the best thing that's ever happened to me
you know you're the best thing that's happened to anyone
oh my God

song 8 "catch and release"

Alright, written yesterday (barely, the rain and cold made it hard to play) Sam  and Maren Meacham made it work. Sam wrote some sweet lyrics and of course Maren worked out a vocal line. Played on the beach next to the giant fire :) Tried to get it posted last night, but couldn't work out logging onto Blogger to get it posted. We didn't catch any fish :(
I caught a fish the other day
I asked him
how'd you get so unlucky?
and to my great surprise
he said it's always been this way
I said
I've never met a fish who talks
how unlucky can you be?
I mean that's got to be worth something
he told me

sound travels better in the water
I can't really say much
without everyone listening
it's harder than you think
not having any secrets

he saw my hook glistening
and he thought he was lucky
to have found something shiny
but now it's cut through his cheek
this isn't catch and release
my family's got to eat
this isn't catch and release
I was playing for keeps

song 7 "one finger"

Look at these 1 finger chords :)
I can play this with just one hand
just one finger I'm only one man
I can do this without a band
I just realized I'm using two hands

song 6 "home economics"

Already running out of steam and I have a long way to go :(

honey I got laid off I found a different job
it doesn't pay enough I'm at my desk all day I'm at my desk all day

I want to leave find a new home
I need some help can't do it alone

baby I found a job that would be good for us
I tried the best I could it wasn't good enough
I tried the best I could it wasn't good enough

I want to leave find a new home
I need some help can't do it alone
I tried so hard it wasn't enough
should I try again or should I give up

if at first you don't succeed you try and try again
I tried and tried again it worked out in the end

song 5 "lullaby"

Today I had my song idea playing in my head as soon as I got in my car to drive to work. It's a song that I think will sound great with some drums. Unfortunately, I couldn't get anyone to drum today, so I decided to save that idea for later. So, I took some words that Denise wrote and completed it with guitar and melody. It was poorly executed. Finally, Denise gave me some perspective by showing me an Adam Sandler song played on a uke. I then quickly wrote this little gem. Feeling sleepy.
you're so tired
you need some rest
take off your shoes
and get undressed
climb into bed
pull up the covers
lay down your head
and go to sleep

song 4 "that's what she said"

This song was inspired by a lady who left me a note on my mail route:
"If you're too stupid to pick up my out going mail you should find a different job."
can you believe what that girl said to me
who is she
she doesn't even know who I am but what I don't understand
is how do people get that mean
to be unafraid of what we think of them

well I know what I could do
I could care I could wish them well
wish them all the best many happy returns

who did that guy think he was anyway
when he cut you off
he must have had much better things to do but what I don't understand
is how do people get that mean
to be unafraid of what we think of them

well I know what I could do
I couldn't care less I could wish them well
wish them well to hell many happy returns

Song 3 "inside...you wouldn't understand...couldn't understand...shouldn't understand"

Look at that. Done before noon.
it's a wonderful life but we've got nothing to choose
so don't pretend we can throw it away or we've got nothing to loose

maybe I don't think twice and I forget what I choose
and I forget what I like and I change what I think got nothing better to do

but I'm sorry
I love you what else can I say
I want to hug you and kiss you every day

I know times is hard but they can also be good
so let's sit down watch a Wes Anderson film I really think that we should

well maybe I'm frightened but not nearly enough
could you repeat that with a mock of my voice
that's the stuff

but I'm sorry
I love you what else can I say
I want to hug you and kiss you every day

in the right left pocket you will find the key
and I want you to spend the rest of your life with me

Song 2 "Seattle"

Here's song 2. It's called Seattle, but don't take it personally, it's just a song. I realized today that I want to post the lyrics also, so I've added them for song 1.
I can watch the rain come down from the sky and hit the pavement
I can see the leaves change color then they fall and let the sun shine through
the trees
I lay down in the grass on my back while the sun shines and warms me to sleep

I can get stuck in traffic on my way to downtown Seattle
I can pay more for the gas in my car or at least I have to
Between you and me I don't mind
with the hills and the green and the rain and the sea

When you see me, I'll be happy to be here
I'll never leave this place

I can watch the rain come down from the sky and hit the pavement
I can get stuck in traffic but I'll never leave this place

Song 1 "dishes"

Denise read an article about building creativity. That's how she figured out that I should write a song every day for 100 days. It sounds daunting, but I agreed. I think over the last 7 years, I've written maybe 4 songs. So, here is song 1 of 100. Let the creative purge begin :)

I will be here while you're away
and I'm so lazy I could sleep all day
by the time you get here I'll be gone
you fall asleep then I come home

I'm so busy I don't have time
to do the dishes you say that's fine
you can just do them when you get home
I don't know I don't feel right

what can I do

you said it's not that hard
it won't take long and you don't mind
but I feel wrong
